Existing Park and Recreation Facilities

Othello’s current inventory of parks and recreation sites include 2 mini-parks, 1 neighborhood park, and 1 community park.  These existing parks and recreational facilities encompass a total of 43.4 acres of land, and are characterized as follows:

Lions Park -- encompasses 26.9 acres in a setting of trees and grass, includes a wide variety of active and passive recreational opportunities, and is situated in proximity to an elementary school.  Major amenities include:  a baseball/softball complex, capable of hosting four (4) games simultaneously, with a concession stand, bleachers, and rest rooms; a soccer field; a tennis court; a basketball court; playground equipment; walking trails; additional rest rooms; horseshoe pits; covered picnic shelters; a handball wall; and plenty of room for other recreational activities.

Kiwanis Park -- encompasses 15.2 acres in a setting of trees and grass, and is also situated in proximity to an elementary school.  Its major amenities feature:  walking trails; a basketball court; covered picnic shelters; a grassy amphitheater; tennis courts; a large covered picnic area; horseshoe pits; outdoor water fun for children; rest rooms; and ample room for other active and passive recreational pursuits.  Kiwanis Park is a “neighborhood” park facility.

Pioneer Park -- is a 1.0-acre site with trees and grass, utilized for passive recreational pursuits, and is the City’s oldest park (dating back to 1912).  This park features the City’s tie to aircraft via a T-33 jet honoring the City’s relationship to a former nearby air base.  Its park tables and benches have been recently augmented by the addition of:  a rest room, a lovely gazebo, and handicapped parking.  

Othello Community Pool -- Our new Community Pool has a 0 depth entry, w/child spray toys, a lap pool, small lazy-river, and 1 large aquatic slide.

 The new $2.6 million outdoor community pool facility has a Concession Stand-open to both the community pool & general public in the park, New Bathhouses, Separate Family / Handicapped-accessible Bathhouse

Other Existing Recreational Amenities

Within City limits, there is an Othello Senior Center that is used for meetings, receptions and meals for seniors.  Outside Othello’s City limits, but nevertheless situated within convenient proximity, are other recreational amenities:

  • Othello Golf Course -- this privately owned course is open to the public, has nine (9) holes, and is situated on Bench Road southwest of the City.
  • Adams County Fair and Rodeo Grounds -- this approximately 60-acre County complex is situated about a mile from the City’s southeasterly perimeter, and is used annually for the county fair, rodeo, and demolition derby.
  • P.J. Taggares County Park -- this 20-acre County facility is located roughly two (2) miles west of the City limits. 
  • Columbia National Wildlife Refuge -- this large federally owned refuge is situated northwesterly of the City and is a popular location for fishing, hunting, hiking and bird watching.  Please refer to prior information herein regarding its regional attraction that brings a variety of seasonal visitors to Othello.
